Since liberation, especially since the Reform and Open, the Water authorities of Guangdong has been gearing to the international association and cooperation to learn advanced techniques and import sophisticated equipment from foreign countries. A bulb-type hydraulic generating set has been imported to Feilaixia Key structure from Austria. With the unit capacity of 350 megawatts, it is at present the biggest unit of the similar type in China. Taking part in assistance to some foreign countries in the field of hydropower project, water authorities of Guangdong undertook the construction and management of Bouenza hydropower plant in Congo and Fanole Water Conservancy Project in Somali. Financing by the European Union, a flood forecast and river management system was built for the purpose of flood control of Beijiang River. The above-mentioned association has promoted further mutual friendship between the peoples of China and those countries.
